Author: J.L. Weil
Genre: Teen Paranormal Romance
Hosted by: Lady Amber's PR
And I couldn’t help but feel it’s entirely my fault. There is no one else to blame.
I’ve quickly learned that being the White Raven isn’t easy. The dead are restless and angry, and I don’t know the first thing about being a banshee. Those around me will get hurt. To keep them safe, I must endure painful decisions.
Zane Hunter, the ultra-bad boy who stole my heart, is one of those difficult decisions. Our souls are synchronized, making us a compatible duo. Too bad I’m engaged to his brother.
My forbidden relationship with Zane is complicated. Deep down I want more than what my duty demands of me, what my family’s past has shaped for me.
Our problematic relationship only increases in tenfold when a surprise I never saw coming shows up in Raven Hallow, changing the game. I thought I had nothing left to lose…I was wrong.
Yeah, being a banshee isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
Award-winning and Bestselling author J.L. Weil writes Teen & New Adult Paranormal Romances about spunky, smart mouth girls who always wind up in dire situations. For every sassy girl, there is an equally mouthwatering, overprotective guy. Of course there is lots of kissing. And stuff. Most of her books are for ages 16+. They usually have what she considers the good stuff - sexual content (oh yeah) and swearing. You have been warned ;) An admitted addict to Love Pink clothes, raspberry mochas from Starbucks, (yum!) and Jensen Ackles (double yum!). She loves gushing about books and Supernatural with her readers.

As I stared down at my phone, I wondered when or if I would ever see Parker again. I scowled. A pang of regret and guilt hit me in the chest, and before I had a second to sort through what I was feeling, a dark shadow blocked my sunlight.
I was almost afraid to turn around. Overhead, the two hawks cried in rapid succession, sending out a warning. Whoever it was had them up in arms.
“I was surprised to see you alone, but then I saw your babysitters.” Apsyn dropped down in the sand beside me. A pair of pink shades was situated on top of her head, chestnut locks cascading around her oval face.
I let out a breath of relief. “Oh, thank God. I thought you might be a hallow or worse.”
She laughed. “Well, that’s a first. No one’s ever mistook me for a ghost. And what could be worse than the dead determined to make chop liver out of you?”
My nose crinkled. “I could think of two.”
She placed a slim finger to her lips. “Let me guess. Zane and Zander?”
I shuffled my shoes, burying them into the sand. “Bullseye.”
“I don’t see how that’s a dilemma. It sounds more like an opportunity.” Her mischievous smile twinkled. “Want to trade places?”
“If it was possible, I might actually take you up on it.”
“You like to run?” she asked, eyeing my gear.
My lips quipped. “Nope.”
“Got some excess energy to burn? That I understand. It will get easier once you learn to control your powers. I bet one of your dilemmas might be able to help you burn through it.”
I felt my cheeks start to stain pink. Not because I was embarrassed, but because I was envisioning what it would be like to throw all this amped up energy into lip locking with Zane. “I’m trying to avoid a catastrophe, not enflame it.”
She dug her fingers into the sand behind her and leaned back. “My way sounds more fun…and it looks like you could use a little fun. I doubt you’ll have much time to yourself soon.”
“I don’t remember signing up for summer school, but it looks like I’ve been enrolled into reaper combat and the history of banshees.”
Her glossy lips arched. “I enjoy a little one on one.”
I just bet she did. Aspyn was the type of girl who was sexy without even trying. If I did or say half the things she did, I would look like an idiot. “I’m going to suck at this, you know,” I said, thinking about how much I was going to embarrass myself. “I possess no athletic skills whatsoever.”
“Kissing is a sport. I bet you’re good at that.”
My eyes narrowed. “Is sex the only thing on your mind?”
She stretched out her legs like a lazy cat. “I’m an eighteen, unattached, hot female. Obliviously, it’s all I think about when I’m not thinking about destroying souls.”

I was on autopilot now.
Open the door, get out, fight, kill … survive.
I stepped out of the car and a blast of hot, muggy, Louisiana air hit me, causing a sheen of sweat to instantly appear on my skin. The breeze didn’t do anything to help matters, it only made things worse by catching my hair and making it flutter around into my eyes.
My guns were both drawn as I moved out from behind the car door to face the men who awaited us at the bridge. They had blocked the entrance into New Orleans with their trucks and stood in front of the vehicles with their assault rifles aimed at us.
The men were in military uniforms, right down to the Kevlar and flack vests. Dark sunglasses covered their eyes, but the dragon tattoos on their right cheeks stood out, prominently displaying their loyalty to the Vampire Council. I counted eight men in uniforms. There were six of us, but that didn’t mean anything when we were up against assault rifles. It looked like Alice was going to have to do a lot of the heavy lifting for us to get out of this one.
“Set your weapons down and put your hands in the air!” The loudspeaker guy repeated.
I knew better than to look at my comrades, a good Hunter always kept her attention on the target. We had known this was coming long before we arrived, so we were somewhat prepared.
I felt more than saw the shimmering bubble of Alice’s shield silently slip around me. I knew without looking that the shield was large enough to cover the whole group.
Drew and Luke stood to my left and Gavin was directly behind me. Alice, Oscar, Zander and Christina were to our right, having pulled Zander’s truck up on that side of the Escalade. It had been decided ahead of time that none of us were going to part with our weapons. We couldn’t chance losing our only guns since there was no way for us to get any more at the moment.
“Now!” the loudspeaker guy demanded.
None of us complied with his repeated order, so the next order was to his soldiers. “Fire!”
The noise was unbelievable, I’d never in my life heard anything like it except for in the movies. The soldiers pulled the triggers on their weapons and I wanted to cower, but I forced myself to stay put and not to move. I knew everyone else was doing the exact same thing. We had to trust Alice’s shield.
Milliseconds later the rounds silently lodged themselves into the invisible barrier, then dropped down, ending their assault with the pinging sound of metal against pavement.
I stood behind our protective shield, watching the bullets stop mere inches from me and then fall to the ground. Holy crapola, of all the crazy stuff I’d seen and done in my short lifetime, that was the scariest.
“What the hell!” one of the soldiers shouted, obviously confused as to why we were all still standing.
Again, we’d anticipated their moves. We knew that there would be a stall when they realized that their guns couldn’t harm us. Gavin took that as a cue and stretched out his arms, palms facing upward. He closed his eyes and tilted his face to the sky.
Mistaking Gavin’s pose as a gesture of surrender, the soldiers resumed their shooting. These guys were making it blatantly clear that they didn’t want prisoners, they wanted death.
What Gavin was doing, however, was far from surrender. The gently moving waters of the river suddenly began to quake and shift, rising into waves as Gavin’s power took hold.
The soldiers were too intent on us, their targets, to look around them and see what was happening. So they didn’t see the giant waves growing high into air on each side of the bridge.
They continued to shoot at us despite their confusion. “Keep firing,” the loudspeaker guy ordered. The other soldiers glanced at each other, but followed direction.
The shield held, withstanding the force of all the gunfire. I watched the waters rise up into the air and hoped to God that it would continue to hold. I glanced over at Alice and found her standing calmly with her eyes closed, blocking out the world around her so that her concentration wouldn’t be disrupted. If her concentration fell, so would the shield.
The waters around the bridge had finally reached about thirty feet high when Gavin lifted his arms straight up, reaching to the heavens. The huge waves of water suspended there, waiting for Gavin to tell them what to do. Then, grunting like he had been holding all the weight of the water, Gavin swung his arms downward, his whole body lowering into a kneeling position as he did so.
The water crashed down onto the bridge like a tsunami. The soldiers in front of us didn’t suspect a thing as the river water fell onto them with its full weight of thousands of pounds.
A cry of triumph resounded from our small group, myself included. I raised my guns into the air and yelled right along with them as we watched the soldiers disappear into the murky water.
Nothing so magical had ever happened to me as watching all that water hit the shield. It was like being inside of a fish tank. The entire world vanished, aside from what we could see in the bubble. Thank goodness, Alice had included the vehicles within the protection of the shield.
We waited for the area to clear, watching the water slide down the outside of the barrier. The time it took was probably less than one minute in real time, but it felt like freaking forever to me.
Gavin had returned to his normal stance, but was gently moving his hands and forcing the water over the bridge to clear the way.
When the majority of the water was gone, I visually searched every inch of space I could see, hoping that the wave had taken most of the soldiers with it. But, the first sign of life that I saw was an angry soldier trudging toward us. He had no weapon, most likely having lost it when the wave hit.
“Drop the shield,” I ordered.
I heard a sigh of relief as Alice let the shimmering bubble fall, exposing us to the soldier and any others who happened to be out there. For me, there was always a decision when it came to weapons. I had my fire, which was a constant inner force begging to be let out. So, as this man steamrolled toward me, I felt the urge to roast his ass. Instead, I pushed back the fire and raised one of my guns. He was in full military gear with the flack vest and Kevlar helmet, so I aimed for the neck.
Again, the remorse of killing a human being and not a vampire sat heavy in my stomach. I didn’t like this at all, not one little bit. But, like before, this guy was going to kill us if I didn’t do something. Kill … or be killed. That was the bottom line.

Fall in Savannah, GA, is usually pretty mild. However, today is a dark day, between the pain I can feel in my bones, the loss of my Uncle, and my President. My head pounded as my uncle’s casket was lowered to the ground. The chrome pins from the brothers in the Syndicate were shining in the late afternoon sunlight. When the creator of your bike club dies, everyone comes out and shows their respect. I looked over to Lucas and noticed the solitary tear running down his face. I had wished mom would come, but when she said she wanted nothing to do with my uncle, she meant it.
After the funeral we made our way back to the clubhouse for the wake. Lots of beer, drugs, and beautiful women. That’s how Uncle Luke rolled. I almost burst out laughing when I saw the gravestone cake Casey had ordered.
“Do you really think that cake was the wisest choice Casey?” I said, trying to hide my amusement. Casey shrugged and smiled at me as she made her way to my side. This wasn’t the way I wanted to get my Pres tab.
“I would like to introduce everyone to your new President of the Sinister Sons Syndicate! Fucking hear, hear!” Blade grabbed my arm and held it high in the air. He pulled me in for a hug, and patted my back as I buried my head in his shoulder.
Hammer stands in the corner, sipping on his jack. He sneers at one of the hunnies as she tries to sneak by him.
“Thanks for coming everyone. I hate getting together on these circumstances, but does a son ever really need a fucking reason to party?!” I lifted my drink in the air.
I finished my drink and snuck off to my room. I kept the light off so no one would notice, but to no avail. Casey snuck in and whispered through the darkness, “Gavin are you here?”
I reached forward in the dark and pulled Casey into my arms, conquering her lips as I pushed her toward the bed. I slowly laid her down, as she pulled her panties off from under her skirt. I unzipped my pants, and let my throbbing dick loose from the confines of my jeans. I crawled in between Casey’s tight legs, and pressed the tip of my thick cock deep inside her wetness. She let out a moan, as I pressed myself into her harder and harder. I reached up Casey’s shirt and grabbed her large breasts.
Casey reached around and grabbed my tight ass. She matched my rhythm as she wrapped her legs tight around my waist.
I could feel the pressure starting to twitch in my balls, and before I could stop it– I spilled my seed deep inside her wet cunt. I unsheathed myself from her heat.
She moaned as she pressed up to kiss my lips.
I crawled off of her and made my way to the small bathroom attached to my room. I flipped the lever to the shower, stripped, and stepped in.
I could hear the loud music of the party even over the volume of water in my shower.
Casey knocked on the door and stepped in. “Gavin, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Casey. Just taking a shower.”
“I know, but he was like a father to you and Lucas. I was just trying to check on you.” Casey said as she closed the door behind her.
Within a moment of Casey being gone, there was another tap on the door. “Holy Fuck! I’m fine, just let me have a fucking minute, Casey.” I growled.
“Gavin, it’s me.” Lucas said as he closed the door behind him. He stuck his head in the shower to see me.
“What do you want, Lucas?” I said as I looked up into the water and let it cascade down my body. My tattooed chest, and arms always made the bubbles look tri-colored. I finished rinsing my black hair, and turned the shower off. I grabbed my towel and stepped out.
“I was just making sure you’re all right, Gavin.” Lucas said as he leaned against the sink.
“I’m fine. I don’t know why y’all are so damned worried about me.” I said with my irritation clear in my voice.
“He was my best friend, Uncle, and President. Of course it fucking hurts, but in our line of work, it’s kind of guaranteed. I know I’m never going to be able to have a retirement, and that’s ok with me. If it’s not okay with you then you’re in the wrong fucking family, bro.” I held the door open for Lucas to leave, and dressed in my usual jeans, and black t-shirt. I slid my boots on and pulled my kutte on. My VP tab was gone, and about to be replaced with the Pres Tab. I always wanted this job, but not like this.

Kelly Martin writes paranormal, contemporary, historical, and YA fiction. She has been married for over ten years and has three rowdy, angelic daughters. Part of me is afraid I'm going crazy.
Part of me is scared I'm not, because if I'm not, if what is going on in my nightmares is real, then I've got 99 more problems to deal with.
That's why I can't tell Tina. It's why I can't tell anybody. There is something inside me that will not allow me to have a meaningful conversation with people. It's like part of me is missing. Not just the scary part either. It's like I'm missing some important part of myself that everybody else has and God forgot to put inside me. Like everyone else has a nice awesome soul and I have… Hart.
So not a fair trade.
I sit up straighter and place my hands on the keyboard, ready to tell Tina something without telling her anything at all. It's how humans communicate, right? I'll tell her that, yeah, I'm having some anxiety issues. It's the second full week of college, of living with Sam, of being away from home. College assignments are different from high school, and I'm a little stressed about doing well on them. I won't tell her about Sam or the weird fight we had last night. Almost like he wanted to pick it so I'd go upstairs and leave him alone. I'll tell her it's anxiety and not that I haven't slept more than two hours a night in a week. I'll tell her a lot of things because she is my friend and that's what friends do.
They lie to each other so they can make each other feel good.
@sullyGray I'm fine. Really. Just Monday morning, kwim? I'm ready for it to be Friday again. Whoot!
@tinaM Tell me about it! Mondays are so hard! Gotta go. Talk to you later. Have a great day!
@sullyGray You too!!!!!!
And then I add some smiley emoticons, because that's just what a person does. I hit send and lean back in my computer chair. Monday morning. Time for Professor Mitchell's class. Time to see Marcy, AKA the best Teacher's Assistant in the world, and listen to the professor talk about some random event that happened in the Civil War. Because that's what he does. He talks about random events that didn't matter to anybody but does it in such a way that you care. Professor Mitchell is one of those teachers who just makes you want to learn, makes you want to listen. He has something special about him. Something no other teacher has had, and I've only had him three times. I have his class Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. A great way to start the week, and a great way to end it.
Can't exactly say enough about Professor Mitchell. I mean, he's him.
Sweet, intelligent, awesome, and at least twenty years older than me. Handsome in that old guy way. Not that I'd want anything to do with him—not in that way. Not feelin' that, but I know some other people in the class wouldn't mind.
The professor loves talking about the Civil War. More than just the war, the families involved, the real people behind the "Hollywood machine," as he calls it.
I shut down my computer and stretch in my chair. Yeah, it's Monday, but it'll be a good Monday. It will. I'll go to class with a positive attitude. I'll listen. I'll take notes. I'll text Sam—funny how he's not sent me one before now—and I'll be happy.
Or, at the very least, I'll pretend to be happy.
That's all people really want, right?
Sunshine. Marcy, the T.A. for Professor Mitchell. Tina. Sam—somewhere. I'm living my life. I'm moving on. I'm totally ignoring Hart, who is currently whispering in my head about candles.
I'm fine.
I'm totally normal.
