BRIEF SYNOPSIS

Rainer is an affluent doctor and is involved in a car crash with a drunken man that’s a member of a local street gang. The doctor becomes a paraplegic and his brother, Glenn, is on the police force, and places his desire for revenge on hold to prove the judicial system works.

But when the drunken man is found not guilty, Glenn loses his trust in the system and kills the man responsible for paralyzing his brother. The gang responds to the slaying by targeting members of the police force, local business owners and his own family.

The two sides suffer casualty’s, one after the other, in this show of “for every action, there is a reaction”. The gang is dismantled and Rainer’s family is fragmented, giving a haunting sense that the need for revenge is toxic and how a decision to drive while intoxicated can dramatically change the course of many lives.

BLURB

Rainer is a successful doctor and father of two. He’s a celebrated member of the community for his exceptional care and charity work. Brick is a local street thug that can’t keep his nose clean. When fate brings the two together through tragedy, the life of Rainer is changed dramatically.

Glenn is a seasoned cop and Rainer’s younger brother. Trusting the justice system, he keeps his desire for revenge in check as Brick is brought to trial. But when the jury hands Brick a lean sentence, Glenn sets out to avenge his family’s suffering. But what he forgets in his rage is that for every action, there is a reaction.

EXCERPT

Without the warning of skidding tires or a screaming passenger, his car was slammed broadside. The impact was between the passenger door and rear quarter-panel, sending the car skidding sideways and into a utility pole. The doctor’s head snapped to the side violently and his body instantly went numb. The squeal of bending steel folding all around him was deafening and he was pinned in the seat. His body was twisted in such a way that his eyes were looking at what he thought were his legs.
He cringed, knowing how grotesquely twisted they were and what that meant for him. This was bad and his legs disappeared inside the wreckage. He felt no pain and that concerned him. It was the coming comfort of shock and although he tried to fight it, it was powerful. There were so many people that depended on his health, and this particular night was no different. There was a police officer with a bunch of holes in his chest waiting for him on the operating table.
“I’m sorry,” Rainer gurgled on a mouthful of blood. He spat and mindlessly continued to try and decipher what were his legs and what belonged to his car. He tried to shake his head to dislodge the confusion, but found that he couldn’t move.
His body was delicately intertwined with steel, and it pinched him enough that it kept him perfectly still.
“I don’t want to die,” he said, his voice a raspy wheeze. “I have too much to do.”
But the coming darkness descended upon him and smothered him in nothingness.

BLURB

Adrianna Bristol stood before her grandmother's antique mirror and stared at the black velvet cloth covering it. She just couldn't believe her nana was gone. The mirror had hung in that exact same spot for the last twenty years, never once had it been moved from the alcove. Adrianna remembered the stern words of her grandmother when she was a child. Annabel Bristol had told her, "promise me Adrianna that you will never uncover the mirror. No matter what it may whisper to you, you must never remove the cover." Adrianna laid her hand against the cool velvet which covered the glass. As she walked away the mirror whispered to her, "you belong to me now. You belong to me." A four hundred year old curse has  plagued the Bristol family since the 1600's. A curse born out of a love so rich and a betrayal so deep, that time itself has no power to stop it. Only Adrianna has the courage to find the truth behind the curse and set her family free. But will the Mirror release its darkest secrets?

EXCERPT

My attention was drawn to a horn honking outside. Looking out the window, I could see Sam parked out front. I dashed down the stairs to meet him at the front door. Sam could help me make it through the day along with dad.
My brother wore a black suit with a grey shirt and a black, maroon, and grey striped tie. He looked so handsome in a suit it made me wish he would wear them more often as I admired how nice he looked. When will you ever find the right woman to marry? Although I don’t have much room to talk since I am just as fickle.
“Would you please zip my dress for me?” I asked.
“Sure. How are you holding up today? Did you sleep okay last night?”
“Better than I thought I would but I had the strangest dreams about nana and that mirror,” I said while pointing toward the mirror and wrinkling my nose in disgust.
“Do you remember when we were little and she told us the one thing we could never do was to uncover that mirror?” I asked.
“Yes, but I didn’t understand why. And to be perfectly honest sis, I still don’t understand what the big deal is about that mirror. Everyone acts as if it is cursed. Why would you keep something if it caused so much trouble?”
I smiled and raised an eyebrow. Our family always had an air of peculiarity to it. Most of the people in town were polite to us in an obligatory way. Our family founded Bristol Bay so it was expected that they show us some type of respect. However, I always felt like they feared us as well. They kept their distance, which didn’t bother me in the least. Being social with strangers has never been one of my strong suits. Perhaps that was the reason behind my career choices. Buildings speak through their design and do not need words to communicate with you. Their shapes and angles silently show their character.
Sam followed me to the kitchen and opened the pantry door to look for a lace tablecloth for the dining room table. I found a cream linen one trimmed with lace while rummaging through the linen closet. It would have to do. I spread it out across the table and began to bring in pickle trays, glasses, and silverware. We would not need to provide any food for after the viewing. Everyone would bring a covered dish, sandwiches, or desserts. With the last tray of glasses placed the phone began to ring.
I walked to the hallway and leaned against the doorway listening to Sam speak with the funeral director. They would be here within the hour. Our father would be arriving with them and would be followed by the funeral procession. Sam placed the phone back in the cradle.
“Are you ready for a houseful of company? They’re on their way as we speak.”
Sam knew how much I hated large gatherings.
Why couldn’t we say goodbye to nana alone? At least Leticia will be here and I can ask her about the ring.
We both sat in silence on the window seat until we saw them coming up the driveway.
We greeted each member of our family as they walked up the porch stairs to the landing. Inside we had arranged as many chairs as we could find for them to sit in. At last, I saw dad emerge from the hearse. It never occurred to me how much nana’s death would affect him. Sadness filled his eyes as he wrapped his arms around me. He had grown to love her as he did his own mother and her death had left a mark on his soul.
“I am so sorry daddy,” I whispered while wrapping my arms around him.
“I am too Adrianna. She just left us so unexpectedly. At least she did not suffer. All you can ask for is to slip away peacefully the way she did in her sleep. I could not bear to see her suffer. She was too proud a woman to have endured an injustice like that.”
Once everyone took their seats, Father O’Malley began the service with a prayer. Attending mass was a rarity for me, so it was difficult to sit still for such a long time. I listened as he spoke fondly about her. He told them about her good works, the time she donated so freely to help others. He ended the sermon with the crowning achievement of my nana’s dedication to Our Lady of Penance.
When my grandfather passed away, he had left nana a very substantial amount of money in the form of a trust. He kept it hidden from her the entire time they were married. She used the money to build one of the largest secular libraries in Maine. I smiled and kept my head down. If only Father O’Malley knew the truth. Nana was so angry with him for hiding the money; she used it to build the library because she knew it would infuriate him! I barely heard Father O’Malley ask me if I would like to say any words about her. My hand trembled against the lid of her casket while I gathered the words.
“Annabel Bristol was an unusual and caring woman. She loved her family with the same exuberance that she loved life. She enjoyed the simple aspects of everyday and lived every moment of her life to the fullest. Whether building a library simply to infuriate my dead grandfather as he looked down on her from heaven or tending her teacup roses, she did it with pride. My nana did not care what anyone thought, and she did what she wanted. She did what she could to ease the pain of others and shared her simple joys with them. She will be deeply missed. As long as I live, I will make sure Annabel Bristol is remembered for not only the woman she was but also the woman she was to me.”

Masquerade

Review 4/5 stars!!

I'm disfigured. Scarred. Ugly.
When I look in the mirror, I see a stranger. When I look over my shoulder, no one's there…
Yet I feel watched. Hunted. Afraid.
And then he tells me I’m beautiful.
He tells me I’m safe.
I believe him.
Until someone tries to kill me.
Secrets abound, danger is near, and still… my heart desires a boy with whiskey-colored eyes and far too many secrets.
Secrets that could cost me my life.
To stay alive I have to look deep, beneath the masks everyone wears, to find the truth.
To find myself.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Masquerade is a great read! I loved the characters, the writing, the mystery, the action, the self discovery and of course the relationship between Heven and Sam.
Heven was attacked and left with scars, but doesn't remember any of it. Once the popular cheerleader, she has completely lost herself after the attack, she has no confidence, lots of anxiety and hides behind her clothes and her hair. But with the help of her two best friends, her grandmother and the new boy at school who doesn't see Heven's scar but sees her as the beautiful girl she is, Heven finds herself slowly getting her confidence and her life back and finds out who she truly is.
Cambria Hebert does a great job writing this story. The characters and their relationships are amazing. Getting to read about different paranormal creatures than you usually read about was also a big plus for me. Masquerade is a must read.
Erin the Fire Goddess
Review 3/5 stars!!
Erin Tait is a 15 year old girl, born with a birthmark covering the left side of her face.
She moves to her parent’s home town of Galladale, where all is not what it seems.
From day one, Erin is bullied by Jessica Watson, for looking at Sean Jackson.
Why is she trying to keep Erin away? It’s hard when Sean goes out of his way to talk to Erin, causing the bullying to get worse.
Erin is lonely and scared; she doesn’t know what to do. Can she control the fire inside?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Erin is an outcast because of the birthmark that covers part of her face and having to move to a new town and start at a new school is not the easiest thing for her. Especially after she meets Sean, a boy she is instantly attracted to. But meeting Sean brings Erin more problems than she could possibly imagine, the bullying she receives from Jessica is nothing compared to the stares and looks she gets because of her birthmark. Jessica warns Erin to stay away from Sean, but he is everywhere she goes. What Erin doesn't know is that meeting Sean will completely change her life.

I really enjoyed reading Erin the Fire Goddess, it is different than anything else I have recently and the author does a great job writing the story. The reason I gave it a 3 star review is because I kind of felt cheated when the story ended. I was expecting something to actually happen in the book but it didn't, I hit the last page and felt like there needed to be a lot more. It is a great start to the series but it is more information about who and what Erin is. The other thing that bothered me is the love connection between Erin and Sean happens way, way to fast.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next in the series to get more into the story.

*I received this book from the author in return for an honest review

Double Star

Review 5/5 stars!!

When Cepheus, a dark god, forces seventeen-year-old Ally Ashworth off an isolated overlook, she has no idea she's falling into his world, or that the necklace she’s wearing is actually a key—one with the power to ignite the next world war. But she’s carried beyond his reach and into the one place where he’s powerless... the forest of Gilgamesh.

Ally’s never been Miss Popularity, but her outsider status takes on new meaning when she’s rescued by Liam Cheveyo and his peculiar friends. After seeing them shape-shift into their freaky animal counterparts, Ally smacks hard into a few truths—magic really does exist and, although getting there took no effort, finding her way back might be impossible.

Feelings between her and Liam begin to grow along with the realization that, in this world, she’s stronger and better... until she’s caught in a trap set by the creepy spider-boy Cepheus sends to retrieve her. But Ally’s not going down without a fight, not after learning the horrible truth about the passageways.

The survival of both worlds depends on it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Double Star is amazing!! This book pulled me into its world and I did not stop reading until I finished reading and was left wanting more.
Ally is thrown from our world into an alternate universe that is nothing like our own. She is found in the forest by Liam, Corm and Meg and soon finds out that she is nowhere near home, has no idea how she is going to get back and that she has a lot to learn about the forest she ended up in and some of the people that live there.
Once they find out where Ally is from and how she might be able to get back home, Ally, Liam, Corm and 3 of their friends have to go on a 5 day journey that will be much more dangerous than they predict. The journey is made even harder for both Liam and Ally with the possibility of losing each other so soon after finding the feelings they have for each other if Ally finds her way back home.
Double star is like no book I have read in a long time. The characters in this book are incredible. I fell in love with every single one of them, they had me laughing out loud and even crying a few times because I was so attached to the characters. After reading that this is the first book that Cindy has written I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series because even though this book was amazing I can only imagine the second book will be even better.
I received this book in return for an honest review.
Heavenly Hell
Review 4/5 stars!!
You'd think being stuck in the body of a beautiful seventeen year old girl forever would be a gift. But when you are fallen, it is more like a curse.
Indiana was a beautiful angel, enjoying the perks of Heaven, until sh...e was tricked by a demon to fall in love with him. She was forced to fall from Heaven and remain in her seventeen year old form, banished to Earth, for all of eternity.
Now, unable to cope with her banishment, she is a seemingly normal seventeen year old girl by day, while she spends her nights punishing men for the wrongs they have committed against women.
Although Indiana has lived on Earth for thousands of years, she recently settled into a small town, where she has finally been able to make some lasting friendships. When a handsome, mysterious boy comes to town, Indiana knows something is not right. He might end up her ally, or she might end up in the fight of her life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I enjoyed reading Heavenly Hell once I got into it. It is a different take on fallen angels than any other YA book I have read and I liked reading the 2 person POV.

Indiana is a fallen angel, she has been 17 and stuck in the same body for thousands of years. She has decided to settle down in a small town, she is a senior in high school and has met some great friends. After being tricked into loving a demon and forced out of heaven Indiana has a real problem against men, especially men that wrong women.

I loved Indy and how she dealt with the men she was working cases on, whether it was kicking butt or blackmailing them I loved it all.

I enjoyed all of the characters in Heavenly Hell, especially the guys, Indy might not be too fond of men to begin with but she has a great relationship with Nick and Connor as friends. Then there is Nate, who irritated the crap out of me at times but I enjoyed the competitive relationship him and Indy ended up having.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series if there is one planned. I am interested to learn more about Indy and the other fallen angels and what exactly Nate is. If you are looking for a quick and easy read with plenty of twists, men getting what they deserve and great characters check out this book.

Plague Nation

Review 5/5 stars!!

Sequel to the thrilling zombie novel PLAGUE TOWN.

The undead have been defeated in Redwood Grove, CA, but reports of similar outbreaks are coming in. What seemed to be an isolated event is turning into a pandemic. The... last thing Ashley Parker wanted when she went to college was to join the military, but she is one of a select few who are immune to the virus. Gifted with enhanced speed, strength, and senses, she’s recruited by a shadowy international organization that’s existed for centuries, its sole purpose to combat the zombie threat.

Dark secrets begin to emerge, and when an unknown enemy strikes, Ashley and the other zombie hunters—known as “wild cards”—embark on a desperate mission to reach San Francisco. If they fail, the plague will sweep the nation unchecked. And the person she cares for most may die. Or worse.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love this series. Zombie books are one of my favorites to read and Dana Fredsti's books are on my list of favorites. Just like Plague Town I could not put this book down and it ended much too soon.
As you can guess from the titles of the books the zombie virus has spread but now there are much bigger problems to deal with than just killing zombies. The Wild cards have a new enemy and if they can't stop them the virus might take over the world.
I can not say how much I love all of the characters in this series. Dana does a great job with all of them, every character has a very distinct personality that you will learn to love. Ashley is of course my favorite she is a smartass, funny, loving, caring, badass zombie hunter. She is my favorite kind of female character and she doesn't take crap from anyone.
I don't like to giveaway too much of the book, especially when the authors blurb doesn't give much away. So if you love a great zombie book that is descriptive in its zombie killing with realistic relationships (both friendship and love) that will having you laughing out loud and maybe even cry a little in this book this series is the one to start reading right now, you will not be disappointed. I cant wait to find out when the next book comes out because I want to read it now.
